Hello World

Hello, my name is Mark. I currently work as an IT technician within the Education sector in the UK. More specifically, I am a cluster technician. Which involves me travelling to different schools to manage their IT infrastructure.

I am very passionate about getting young people of all groups into tech. I love talking about and playing with current, new and upcoming technology. This website is a way for me to share my curiosity and a resource for myself to look back on in the future.

Education

From a young age, I would spend as much time as I could in the computing room. The room was named after Sir Tim Berners-Lee who is well known for inventing the World Wide Web.

Here I would work on using and maintaining 3D printers and creating fun projects with Pythion. I am always curious to expand my knowledge and I'm always trying to learn more. Education doesn't end after school and that should be embraced.

For my GCSE I chose Computer Science, Smart Product Design and Manufacture, History and German as my options along with Maths, Combined Science and English. During this time I also completed my Duke of Edinburgh Bronze award.

In college, I decided to complete three BTECs in IT, Computing and Creative Digital Media Production at the Bucks UTC. Now renamed to the Aylesbury UTC.

After college, I started work and an IT Infrastructure apprenticeship at Green Ridge Academy Trust part of REAch2 the largest primary-only multi-academy trust. During this period I gained a huge collection of knowledge from the more technical side to teaching within a classroom and more specifically within computing lessons.

Apprenticeship Infrastructure Technician (Level 3) Distinction
Apprenticeship CompTIA A+ Pass
BTEC Extended certificate IT (Level 3) Distinction
BTEC Extended certificate Computing (Level 3) Merit
BTEC Extended certificate Creative Digital Media Production (Level 3) Merit

Mini Devs

18 children with cartoon-style stars covering their faces proudly holding up certificates after compleating the Mini Devs Club.

Mini Devs is an after-school club I created to give children in KS1 (5-7-year-olds) and KS2 (7-11-year-olds) experiences in Computer Science they wouldn't cover in lessons. Including experiences they might not even get in secondary school (11-16-year-olds.) If you are looking for teaching/learning resources I will include as many as I can in the Articles section of this website. Learning computer science is an important part of everyone's education. Whether you like it or not we now live in a world where computers are everywhere. From the tractors that farm our food to AI such as Microsoft's Copilot. To have the best opportunities in life having an understanding of new and upcoming technology will give you an advantage.

In the past, I have covered a range of areas including:

  • How to use Large Language Models (KS1 & KS2)
  • AI image recognition (KS1 & KS2)
  • How to use a Keyboard (KS1)
  • Programming with Scratch (KS1 & KS2)
  • Programming in Python (KS2)
  • How to make a website with HTML & CSS (KS2)
  • Game Development (KS1 & KS2)
  • How computers work and what's inside (KS1 & KS2)
  • Minecraft Hour of Code (KS1 & KS2)
  • Computer-aided design (KS1 & KS2)
